Glenn Murray

Cowboy Music

Glenn Murray met Tim Martin when they both served as chaplains for hospice in Comanche Texas. Glenn became the bassist in Tim’s band “Spirit of the West’. Over time it was clear that they both had a passion for the cowboy way of life and music and they formed “Martin and Murray” with the goal of playing at Cowboy Poetry Gatherings, Rodeo Events, and Cowboy Churches. As well as working on putting together their first CD, they are also working music for a project related to the story/screenplay “Transcending Times – The Charles Alsonso Kennedy Story.”

Fletcher Jowers

Singer - Songwriter, Author

Back when cowboy poetry gatherings were getting popular in 1989, Fletcher got together with a friend and recorded a few cowboy songs. Since then, cowboy and gospel music have become his focus. It has been three amazing decades filled with song. If you have only just heard of Fletcher Jowers, you should really come on down and listen to him as he would love to share his music with you!

As a songwriter, his cowboy and gospel music is unique all on its own. His songs are purely acoustic, with no electronics at all. He has released six projects, which include: Church at the Wagon, Still Riding High, Sing Me a Cowboy Song, and Songs of a Texas Cowboy, Trails To Heaven, and At The Cross.

Charles “Smokey” Culver

Cowboy Poet, Songwriter

Charles “Smokey” Culver writes poems and songs about cowboy life, ranching, horses, trains, law enforcement, the outdoors and the Old West. His words have been heard on stages across Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and various places cowboy poets and fans of the genre gather.

Culver began writing poetry and playing guitar around age 14. But most of his poems have been written in the past few years, he said.

His writing is disciplined, adhering to a strict meter and rhyme.

“I’m somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to my poetry,” he said. “It has to be a good rhyme — not just close to the right rhyming word but really the perfect word.”

A common conception is that cowboys are stoic and strong, with little to say and not much interest in sharing their feelings, much less their heartfelt poetry. Culver has seen different.

“A lot of these old boys are tough guys — bullfighters, rodeo clowns,” he said. “But they can write a poem that will make you cry. They don’t hold emotion back just because they’re cowboys. They just let it roll.”

Despite the gender specific name of the art form, there are many outstanding female cowboy poets, but very few in Texas, Culver said.

Culver’s appreciation for a simpler time and a slower pace is evident in his poetry and even in the vehicle he drives — a 1950 Chevrolet farm truck with a Texas flag painted on the wood bed rails. He named the truck Jitterbug and has driven it every day for the past 14 years and, of course, wrote a poem about it called “My Old Truck.”

Daniel A. Edwards

Writer, Publisher, Documentary Producer

Daniel A. Edwards is the author of Billy the Kid: An Autobiography, which captures the story of William H. "Brushy Bill" Roberts.

Daniel's ancestors left North Carolina in a covered wagon in the early 1800s to become some of the first residents of the newly formed state of Indiana. His great great grandfather was a sergeant with the Union Army and his great great uncle James Dunlavy won the Congressional Medal of Honor for Capturing General John S. Marmaduke at the Battle of Osage, KS.

With extensive graduate training in research methods and a long history of collaborating with people from all walks of life, Daniel brings a fresh eyes approach to understanding and evaluating evidence. He has been featured on nationally syndicated radio programs and has been interviewed on film regarding his discoveries regarding William H. Roberts, who claimed to be Billy the Kid.

Christopher Mitchum

Actor and Screenwriter

Mitchum is an accomplished American film actor, screenwriter, and businessman. While a student at the University of Arizona, he began his movie career over 50 years ago at Arizona’s “Old Tucson,” the historic film studio site of numerous film and TV Westerns.

Early in his acting career he auditioned for the role of Billy the Kid for John Wayne in the 1970 western Chisum, winning the role as Billy's sidekick. Mitchum appeared in more than 60 films in 14 countries. He was the Screen Actors Guild national first vice president and has been a member of the SAG board of directors.

“I've worked in 14 different countries and starred with the world's top stars. I've made a good living. I did the best with that which I had to work, tried to maintain my values by keeping my clothes on and profanity out of my dialogue. I wanted my children to be able to watch me in my films. I met wonderful people and wonderful characters and traveled to wonderful places... being paid for it all the time! It's said that ‘Life happens while you're making plans.’ It certainly did to me, but I've always tried to make the best of it. Regrets? Sure, I wish my career had stayed in Hollywood, but I'm not dead yet. So far, life's been a terrific ride... and it's going to make a great book!”
